CPN Number / SCN Number
Based on the 1974 Privacy Act Title V, you have the right to keep your Social Security Number (SSN) private and not be denied service due to your refusal. Credit bureaus are not government agencies that is why you don’t have to provide your Social Security Number (SSN) to them.
What is a CPN Number / SCN Number?
The CPN Number (Credit Privacy Number) / SCN Number (Secondary Credit Number) is a nine-digit number that has the exact same genetic makeup of a Social Security Number (SSN). This is not a government issued number like an EIN or TIN. This number is NOT a new Social Security Number (SSN) and NOT a tax ID or EIN. It is simply an available file number at the credit bureaus that can have financial information reported. You have the right to establish this number only once, so do not abuse it. This explanation is not here to advise anyone to misrepresent your Social Security Number (SSN), as you are completely responsible for any debts you incur using your CPN Number / SCN Number.
Legality of a CPN Number / SCN Number
In the FBI Website (FBI.GOV) there is full detailed information about CPN Number (Credit Privacy Number) that will tell you a CPN IS LEGAL!
“Credit Privacy Numbers (CPNs) are nine-digit file numbers that follow the same algorithm as Social Security Account Numbers (SSNs). Currently, federal law allows individuals to legally use CPNs for financial reporting and protects those individuals who do not wish to disclose their SSAN. Individuals who acquire CPNs are completely responsible for any debt they incur using this number”
FEDERAL LAW: CPN Number / SCN Number
Remember the CPN Number (Credit Privacy Number) / SCN Number (Secondary Credit Number) is solely for consumer based credit purposes only. Currently, federal law allows individuals to legally use CPN Number / SCN Number for financial reporting and protects those individuals who do not wish to disclose their Social Security Number (SSN). Federal law allows a person to legally utilize a private ID number for financial reporting intentions instead of his Social Security Number (SSN).
Credit bureaus aren’t legally allowed to require the Social Security Number (SSN) of a person. One has the right to keep his Social Security Number (SSN) private and not be rebuffed due to his refusal. Credit bureaus aren’t government agencies, so the applicant does not have to give them his Social Security Number (SSN). So this means that those who don’t want to disclose their personal information, except when they’re required to do so, are protected by the federal law.
Always Remember
- After you receive your new CPN Number (Credit Privacy Number) / SCN Number (Secondary Credit Number) do not get over excited and apply for everything you can think of applying for. Building credit takes time. Plus 10% of your Credit Score is based on the number of inquiries on your credit file. Apply for one credit card at a time. When you get one stop applying. Receive the card, use it, and pay the bill. DO NOT USE MORE THAN 20-30% of the available credit. Do this for two billing cycles. NOW apply for credit card number two.
- Building credit the right way is hard work, so do it right…slowly and over time. Your CPN Number (Credit Privacy Number) / SCN Number (Secondary Credit Number) can be offered in place of your Social Security number. THIS IS NOT A SECOND SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER (SSN). YOU ARE LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY USE OR MISUSE OF YOUR CPN NUMBER / SCN NUMBER. It will not replace your current social security number (ssn). Your CPN Number / SCN Number will be assigned to you to establish credit only. You are 100% fully responsible for all debts created upon the CPN/SCN number and credit profile.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY AND ALL FINANCIAL AGREEMENTS YOU MAKE USING YOUR CPN.
